Every year, Gatineau Gliding Club, in association with Rideau Valley Soaring School, runs a groundschool for people interested in perhaps taking up the sport, or learning more about it. It is run weekly for 10 weeks, and at the end, graduates get a letter that makes up one of the requirements for a Transport Canada Glider Pilot Licence (you also have to write a TC exam, and of course, learn to fly). It is taught by instructors from both clubs, with whom the students will fly when they join the club.
This year, we are using the Rockcliffe Flying Club, and it is Saturday morning. We have 18 keen individuals, and the first class - an introduction to soaring, the two clubs, and ground handling of gliders - has been completed. Each person taking the groundschool gets a free flight at one of the two sponsoring clubs in the spring!
